Building on a strong district foundation

Upgrading an excellent existing greenhouse for today’s students.

The School District of Manatee County provided Haile Middle School with a sound, purpose built greenhouse and a strong foundation for agricultural learning. Working in coordination with the principal, the FFA program, and the district, this campaign seeks community support for student focused updates that can bring the experience up to 2026 learning standards. Donations support approved enhancements such as specialized flooring, modern growing systems, aquaponics, organized work areas, instructional screens, a classroom sound system, supplies, and hands on learning. Existing maintenance or repair needs will first be reviewed through normal school and district channels. Financial donations are processed through the district’s official RevTrak page and tracked through the school.

From strong foundation to modern learning center

The first upgrade prepares the space for every feature that follows.

The district provided greenhouse structure, lights, fans, cooling equipment, and Micro Grow controls already give the program a valuable head start. The campaign focuses on approved updates to the floor, student work areas, growing systems, instructional technology, and learning experience.

Phase 1 • First priority $7,500 phase budget

Build a clean, safe foundation.

The flooring work is the campaign’s first visible upgrade. It creates a stable surface for workstations, growing areas, student movement, and every later enhancement.

    Clear and prepare

    Remove weeds, debris, and anything that blocks a clean installation.

    Install commercial weed barrier

    Cover the dirt floor to suppress regrowth and separate the new surface.

  3. 03
    Add 2 to 3 inches of crushed 3/8 inch limestone

    Create a clean, durable, drainable surface throughout the greenhouse.

Phase 1 includes more than flooring. The full phase budget also supports approved cleanup, pressure washing, debris removal, delivery, installation support, and preparation for student use. Existing equipment or maintenance concerns will first be reviewed with the school and district so community funds remain focused on approved upgrades. The original planning estimate for the floor materials alone was approximately $300 to $600, subject to an on site measurement and vendor quote.

Our mission

Growing knowledge that lasts a lifetime.

Our mission is to build on the School District of Manatee County’s strong investment by upgrading the existing Haile Middle School greenhouse into a modern, welcoming, hands on learning center where every student has the chance to explore horticulture, agriculture, and the FFA program.

With guidance from teachers and the FFA program, students will learn how to grow their own food, raise crops that can help sustain families, and use responsible growing methods that reduce or avoid pesticides. They can explore vegetables, herbs, flowers, and other useful plants, including plants valued for nutrition, flavor, traditional wellness, and the simple joy of brightening someone’s day.

Students can experience hydroponics, aquaponics, microgreens, indoor growing, artificial lighting, and methods that make productive growing possible even where natural light or space is limited. Instructional screens could also connect students with demonstrations and professionals from beyond the school, while a simple speaker system could support an enjoyable work environment after teacher led instruction. Just as importantly, students can learn to share those skills with classmates, families, and future students.

Through harvesting, preparing products for local farmers markets, meeting customers, and managing revenue, students can build confidence, communication skills, and an understanding of how agriculture and small business work together. Funds earned through student projects could help support future greenhouse lessons and improvements, subject to school and district approval.

Students may also have opportunities to exhibit plants they cultivate at the Manatee County Fair and the Florida State Fair, developing pride in their work and the chance to earn recognition.

This growing curriculum has room to expand each year. Our goal is to honor the strong greenhouse already provided by the district while updating the student experience for 2026 and beyond. With school and district guidance, it can become an even more valuable long term resource for Haile Middle School and the wider community. Your support can help students develop practical skills, discover new interests, and carry what they learn into their homes, careers, and communities for years to come.
